Hemorrhoids or Piles as they commonly known as are common in pregnant women in their third trimester. Pregnant woman are more prone to hemorrhoids if they have constipation.

Causes of hemorrhoids during pregnancy

There is various reasons due to which pregnancy makes you more prone to hemorrhoids, as well as to varicose veins in the legs and sometimes even in the vulva.

  • Your growing uterus puts pressure on the pelvic veins and the inferior vena cava, a large vein on the right side of the body that receives blood from the lower limbs.
  • This can slow the return of blood from the lower half of your body, which increases the pressure on the veins below your uterus and causes them to become more dilated or swollen.

How to prevent Hemorrhoids during Pregnancy?

Following are the ways by which you can prevent getting a hemorrhoid during pregnancy

  1. Drinking plenty of water
  2. Never putting off the call of nature - when you have to go.
  3. Not straining to make a bowel movement
  4. Eating plenty of fibrous foods to soften the stools
  5. Prevent constipation
  6. Peeping the anal area clean.

Hemorrhoids generally cure on their own. But some require a medical procedure. Talk to your doctor if you don't get relief using the suggestions recommended or when you notice bleeding
